The Custom Woodworking Process

Projects go through five stages.

1) Concept

You decide you need something created out of wood and contact me to discuss the project. Project ideas can come from many sources: a vague idea, an empty space against a wall, your sketch, a photograph, a catalog, a web site, etc.

2) Terms

We can work on a fixed price or time and material basis, but my goal is to deliver your project at a fair price for both of us.  Note that I do not apply a surcharge to the wood and supplies I use in your project.

3) Design

Since it’s your project you decide exactly how you want it to look.  We can work with your initial concept and flesh out the design until you give me the go-ahead to begin.  We’ll focus on style, size, shape, functionality, wood selection, color and finish. I can work from a sketch with dimensions, or go all the way to creation of a full SketchUp 3D model for your approval.

4) Construction

I gather the supplies and begin. At interesting points in the process I will email you descriptions and pictures of the progress of your project.  You can also contact me or visit the workshop at any time.

5) Delivery

When complete, you can pick up at my shop, I can deliver locally or ship to your location.
